Assistance Required
Editorial Assistant
The "Chronicle" requires an editorial assistant.
This new position is a result of the increased use of the internet and emails to deliver material to the newspaper.
The successful candidate MUST be confident with computers and have a basic understanding of the Windows operating system (e.g. dragging files from one folder to another etc.). Full training will be given.
You must also be able to work accurately and be diplomatic: you will have to pretend it's at least partly your fault even when the sender is in error but also be willing to admit blame when things go wrong (which they will).
Good communication skills are essential: as well as dealing with customers, the job involves communicating with all departmens in our offices (a resonable level of fitness would help, as there are a lot of stairs!)
As this is a new position, the position may be full time or more flexible(i.e we're not sure) and may suit a houseparent who wants to work around school hours. The workload is also heaviest during the early part of the week, so may suit someone looking for a part time job. A non-smoker would be preferred. A fondness for rock music would be a bonus.
Editorial experience is not required, but you must have good English, be able to type to some extent and be able to use your initiative.
That's as much of the advert I can be bothered typing out, it just goes into more detail on what the position involves etc.
Reading it again and thinking about it a bit more, it says "Software used will be Microsoft Word..." and I'm reading through thinking "Yeah, used that.." but forgetting conveniently that I actually hated using it (if I had to make some specific changes to how it was set out) and got sort of frustrated etc. They said full training would be given so I'm sure they could cope with me asking questions for a little while until I got the whole indenting thing sorted..
